The Silver Spur was the successor of the Silver Wraith II (produced 1980 – 1997). The model was also available in a Bentley edition as the Bentley Muisanne long wheelbase.
The Silver Spur was not available on the American, Canadian, or Japanese markets until model year 1981, just like its predecessor, the Silver Spirit (produced 1980 – 1988).
The Silver Spur had the same specifications as the Silver Spirit but was 4 inches (10 cm) longer.
It had as standard an everflex vinyl roof, RR-badges on the C-style and hub caps in Corniche-style. The extra length went into the rear passenger compartment. Rear doors are 4” longer.
From 1983 the Silver Spur could be ordered with a division window between the passenger and front compartment.
It has the same engine and gear box as the Silver Wraith II (produced 1977 – 1980): a 6750 cc V8 engine without turbo, a three-speed automatic gear box (GM400), and carburetors (Japanese cars had fuel injection).
The Silver Spur had rectangular twin head lamps. Until 1985 the head lamps were provided with a wash/wipe headlamp cleaning system.
The back seats have the styling of two separate seats instead of a bench.
The Silver Spur is, together with the Silver Spirit, the first model that comes with the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament that disappears into the radiator shell on impact (not on the USA market). The grille is 1” lower and 2.5” wider than the grille of the Silver Wraith II. The material is polished stainless steel.
From chassis number 20001 onwards (mid-1987) all cars have a fuel injection system. Prior to this all cars had carburetors except cars for the American and Japanese market which had fuel injection.
Until mid-1987 all cars had two spread exhaust pipes. After chassis number 20001 onwards, all cars had a single exhaust.
The Silver Spur had mineral fluid (HSMO, also called LHM) in the hydraulic system.
The floor pan is the same as the basic floor pan of the Silver Wraith II.
