Car has Quadraphonic 8-track player in dash and speakers. It also has cruise control, power seats, power windows, and a power antenna. Color: Dark champagne, camel color interior of crushed velour.
The Lincoln Continental could be ordered as either a hardtop coupe or a sedan. New model year changes included modified rear fender skirts and wheel molding. New wide center folding armrests were added. The instrument panel was redone with new knobs and a high gloss. New options included wire wheel covers, lighted outside thermometer, and integral garage door opener.
The base engine was an overhead valve V-8 displacing 6.6 liters which had 210 base horsepower. An automatic transmission was standard. Improvements were made for better fuel economy and battery life.
Sales of the hardtop coupe were 20,997, slightly lower than the previous year.
Prices for 1978 models of the Town Car rose by $500 over the prior year’s model. The Coupe sold for nearly $10,000 and the 4-door Sedan for a base of $10,165. (Average household income in 1978: $17,000; average home cost: $54,800; gallon of gas cost: $0.63.)
