In 1972 GTOs were not available as convertibles. However, a Lemans could be ordered with any GTO option including the “M22 Rock Crusher” transmission and 455 HO engine. This car has those options and over thirty more.
It is scheduled to be restored at Level One Restoration, Arvada, CO.
The 1972 LeMans was available as a coupe, station wagon, two-door hardtop and four-door sedan. The LeMans Sport came as a 2-door convertible.
American muscle cars were rapidly disappearing in the 1970s but Pontiac decided to not go down without a fight.
The WW-5 option included the 455 cu. in. 4-barrel HO V-8 engine and either a turbo-hydramatic or close-ration 4-speed manual transmission. It also had a heavy-duty differential, body-color outside mirrors, Formula steering wheel, rally gauge cluster with tachometer, ride and handling package, Ram Air hood, unitized ignition system, and carpet.
The 455 HO was reported as a 14.6-second quarter mile at 95.2 mph as tested by Motor Trend in its October, 1971 issue.
