The high-performance model of the Coronet series was the R/T. They had all of the features of the Coronet 500 plus a 440 cu. in. Magnum V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts.
The R/T included all-vinyl bucket seats in front, carpeting, 150 mph speedometer, padded hub steering wheel, heavy-duty drum brakes, and rear armrests.
They had Rallye suspension and wide-tread white sidewall tires.
The Coronet had new styling for 1968 and had several trim levels and body styles. There was a Deluxe, 440 Series, 500 Series, and R/T Series. Body styles included a convertible, hardtop coupe, sedan, and station wagon. The updated style gave it a rounder profile, full-width grille, and quad headlights. Taillights had a full-width concave panel.
The Coronet name was first used by Dodge in 1949 for its first postwar models and their new styling. The name was dropped after 1959 but returned in 1965 and continued through 1976.
They were an intermediate-sized car that was affordable with features that appealed to customers. The Coronet was the most popular Dodge model with 209,000 sold in 1965.
