Chris’ dad bought this truck from the original owner in November 1989 for the purpose of “hauling stuff”. When the current owner was approaching 16 and wanted his own vehicle, he suggested that this pickup could serve as his “first wheels”. This was 1994 and some updating was needed on the pickup.
He was lucky enough to have three uncles who lent their expertise to assist him in restoration of the pickup.
Uncle one was an excellent mechanic and used his skills to install the mechanical upgrades. Uncle two was an auto body expert and used his skills for body repair as well as painting. Uncle three was a carpenter with expertise in woodworking and was able to help in the restoration of the wooden bed.
The current owner drove the pickup through college until such time that a different kind of vehicle was needed.
The first generation of the C/K series of GMC pickups was a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors from 1960 – 1966 model years. The GMC was an upmarket version of the Chevrolet C/K.
These trucks replaced the Task Force generation of trucks and were the first pickup trucks developed on dedicated truck platforms. Production of the first-generation C/K ended in 1966 when it was replaced by the second-generation GMC C/K.
