This1929 Dodge DA 6-cylinder was purchased by Sherrie’s paternal grandfather Theodore Dux of Gladstone, Jefferson County, Nebraska in 1929. The car was purchased from the Rosener Motor Company in Daykin, Nebraska for about $835.00. Ernest Rosener was a friend of Theodore Dix, and Theodore purchased cars and farm equipment from Mr. Rosener. Theodore Dux gave the car to his brother Gustav Dux and the car was used by his family until after his death in 1946.
The Dodge was stored in an open shed from 1954 until it was sold. It was purchased by Marvin Heller and Edward Schoenrock in 1971. Restoration began in November of 1977 and was completed in May of 1980. The Dodge left soon after for Cedar Falla, Iowa. Marvin Heller kept records of the restoration including photographs. Mr. Heller sold his home in Cedar Falls in 2023. It was his wish that the car be returned to the Dux family. Sherrie and her husband purchased the car in May of 2023 and returned it to Nebraska.
Marvin Heller’s records report that the 1929 – 1930 DA Series was produced from December 1928 until January 1, 1930. Serial numbers ranged from DA 1 to DA 122441. The serial number of this Dodge is not clear, but it is assumed to be 103856. Mr. Heller indicated that, from his research, the Dodge was built before August 30, 1929.
The Dodge features a 6-cylinder engine, and its all-steel body was constructed by Budd Manufacturing Company. The Dodge Brothers used an all-steel body which was much less susceptible to rattles. The car has internal hydraulic brakes.

Early Dodge vehicles developed a reputation for robust mechanics and affordability. They were the first mass-produced American cars with an all-steel body and 12-volt electrical system.
The company was sold to Walter P. Chrysler in 1928 after the untimely death of both Dodge brothers ten years earlier. Under his influence and guidance, a revised range of vehicles was introduced beginning with the new DA Series.
